WESTFIELD - The fire department is battling a fire in Washington House, an apartment building for the elderly on Washington Street, according to police.
The fire at 16 Washington St. was reported shortly after 10 p.m.
The apartment building is located directly across the street from the Westfield police station.
Police said the fire appeared to be mostly out and the building but firefighters were still inside. The apartment building had been evacuated and its residents were outside, police said.
Fireground360 is reporting that multiple people were being treated at the scene, and a call to neighboring communities for ambulances.
