Hurricane Sandy prompts schools, colleges to close Tuesday

The region continued to prepare for the worst as Hurricane Sandy approached.

School systems and colleges called off classes for Tuesday in the face of anticipated power outages and other storm-related problems.

Enfield public and parochial schools and Somers schools canceled classes.

Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Western New England University in Springfield and Westfield State University will be closed on Tuesday.

All Monday evening classes have been canceled at Springfield College. On the college's website, it says Cheney dining hall, Campus Union, PE Complex/Wellness Center and Babson Library will close at 6 p.m. Monday. As of now, classes are scheduled to resume Tuesday morning, the site says.
