State police report light to moderate traffic as Western Massachusetts gears up for Independence Day

The National Weather Services forecasts a chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high of 91.

SPRINGFIELD – State police report light to moderate traffic this morning as Western Massachusetts gears up for Independence Day.

“All quiet so far,” said Trooper Orlando Medinai of the Springfield barracks, speaking at about 8:30 a.m.

“Traffic is light but it’s probably going to get heavier,” said Trooper Bernard Trott, who is attached to the Shelburne Falls barracks. “Route 2 is pretty much wide open right now.”

State police on the Massachusetts Turnpike reported light to moderate traffic.

The National Weather Service forecasts a partly sunny day with chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent and a high of 91 degrees is expected.

There will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m. and skies will be partly cloudy with a low around 67 degrees.
