Westfield police closed Western Avenue from Loring Lane to Overlook Drive as they investigated.
UPDATE at 6:30 p.m. - The bicyclist struck by a pickup truck shortly before 2 p.m. is an 86-year-old Westfield man who is now in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center. The bicyclist's name is not yet being released. There are no charges in this case and Western Avenue has been reopened.
WESTFIELD -- A bicyclist was struck and injured by a pickup truck on Western Avenue in fron t of Westfield State University's Woodward Center at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The bicyclist was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment, said Westfield Police Sgt. Paul R. Beebe. No further information was available.
No information was available in regards to the pickup driver, Beebe said. Beebe only knew that both the bicyclist and the pickup were headed in the same direction.
